Q: Why does SnipSnap not support <abc> feature for commenting?

A: Read >>Joel . He nearly exactly explains our opinion about commenting and discussion systems.

ryan: except that Joel suggests that users should be able to comment without registering, while SnipSnap only allows registered users to comment. Is this intentional?

Q: How do I use taxonomies?

A: Just add a Category to a snip. You can use a Category as a TaxonomyLabel.
  1. Create a snip that will define the taxonomy unit, i.e., [phylum]
  2. Add a TypeLabel -> Category to your new [phylum] snip
  3. When you create children snips of [phylum], i.e., [class], you will be able to assign them a TaxonomyLabel of phylum
You can create explicit taxonomies by using pathnames in your snips:
This is my [top level]
This is a [top level/second level]
This is a [top level/second level/third level]

Q: Is there any way for a user to edit his/her own profile?

A: Login, click on your login name (at top.. "logged in as XXX") and once your profile loads, click 'edit'.

Q: How to change your password?

A: Try to login. After the login fails you will get the offer to receive a new password by email.

Q: How do I get a list of all sub-snips of the current snip?

A:
{snip-tree:current snip}

Q: Can I limit the depth of the tree displaying the sub-snips?

A: Not by default/at snipsnap.org. At your own snipsnap installation you can use the snip-limittree macro which is part of ThoMos addons.

Q: Is there a way to add a "format for printing" link to a snip which will display just the snip content (as HTML)?

A: ?

Q: How do I make a custom edit like including the poster's name in the blog entries listing "(blog)" so it says "posted by ..."?

A: ?

Q: Is there a way to subscribe / notify someone when a snip changes?

A: Currently XMPP Notification is available. Hopefully other mechanisms (e.g. EmailNotifications) will be available in the future.

Q: Is there any way to require user login before seeing anything (a closed site)?

A: ?

Q: Is there a way to add a survey module or mailing list module?

A: ?

Q: How can I cange the directory where snipsnap stores attachments ? The default directory is inside the deploy directory, which doesn't work, because if I deploy as a zipped .war, it goes in the temp and gets deleted later (at least in jboss).

A: ?

Q: Can I configure SnipSnap to store attachments in the db instead of the filesystem

A: ?

Q: Why does the apperence on snips that contain {weblog} change so completly (no diff, hist, del, copy...)?

A: ?

Q: Is there a way to "import" weblog entries that are rooted on other snips?

A: ?

Q: Is there a permissions mechanism? Things like restricting viewing/editing based on user/group.

A: ?

Q: Why can't I find the "diff" option for the "Start" page?

A: ?

Q: How do I create local links that specify a different caption (ie: [caption|reallink] would display "caption" but link to "reallink")?

A: ?

Q: Why are "see also" links to blog entries shortened to a single number only?

A: ?

Q: Can the calendar macro be used with multiple blogs in the same SnipSnap or will it always default to the blog under space/start?

A: ?
