Magic snip names are conventions for snip titles that have special meaning. This is, IMHO, an outdated concept now that labels and namespaces are availble.

Examples:

current magic name	more appropriate
snipsnap-index	snipsnap/index
snipsnap-portlet-1	snipsnap/portlet/navbar
start/2003-07-18/1	start/some+title [label weblogdate:2003-07-18]

UPDATE: in version-0.5a the only remaining magic is in dated snips.
